I approach anything that says “Viking” carefully these days as, sadly, there’s been some unpleasant hijacking. Do you know who gets to use the term? An actual Danish artist who has studied the lore and produced years of art, to only now step onto Kickstarter.
That person is Claire Robkin, and their Viking Design RPG Tabletop Kit project launched on Kickstarter today.
Claire is an artist who works with leather and wood. We benefit as I think these items are good enough for LARP. They’re absolutely perfect if you want TTRPG accessories to match your character concept.
I’ve done that, and it’s a nice extra touch for face-to-face gaming.
An illuminated wood and leather box is at the heart of the offering. If you’ve not been able to watch the video, Geek Native’s write-up includes a photograph of the box in the dark with the glowing glyph.
The dice bag opens up to be a dice tray, and that’s such a clever idea. It’s a pub-suitable way of doing things if you’re okay with stains. Lastly, there’s a re-usable and hand-tooled leather notebook cover.
I hope you will love and see the value and passion I have put into these three gaming assets. Their design is inspired by Old Norse Runes and knot work and reflect the beauty from my culture of a by-gone-age.
It’s a pledge of $120 for the leather bag, which is about £98. I know, and that’s much more than you’ll pay for many other dice bags but this is leather, handmade and from Denmark.
The book cover will set you back $300, or about £245. Equally, if you just want the box then that’s $300.
Want all three? $650 for the set.
Sadly, shipping is limited to certain countries. Happily, you won’t have years to wait as Claire estimates December 2022 for delivery. You might be thinking this is a good Christmas gift, and you may not be wrong, but remember, Kickstarters are prone to all sorts of delays.
