Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is the latest in Aquaplus’s Utawarerumono series. Crunchyroll will stream it, we’ve had an English subtitled trailer as a result.
The latest trailer is in Japanese but is a different vibe, it confirms July 2nd as the premiere, and we’ve some profile illustrations of some of the characters making it from the game and into the anime for the first time.
There will be an impressive 28 episodes in the show, which might be why the first two are running back to back for the July premiere. If you’re at Anime Expo the day before, you’ll get a chance to see some of it there.
Altus, who make the game for the PlayStation, describe the plot;
Chaos has taken hold of the land in Mask of Truth as a conniving general has unlawfully seized the throne of the mighty Yamato Empire. The only ones that stand in his way are a couple of familiar faces who must rally different kingdoms together and fight against the powerful Imperial army. An 80+ hours long visual novel/SRPG experience awaits as you’ll get close with a new cast of colorful characters, fight in numerous exciting engagements with an enhanced battle system, explore intriguing new lands, and more.
