A scant few days ago, Geek Native had the news that charming retailer Prezzybox had been bought by Gift Universe. Gift Universe is the new name for Menkind and the other geeky retailers, including the iconic Hawkin’s Bazaar, that had been snapped up by the growing company.
Unlike Hawkin’s Bazaar, Prezzybox looks set to keep its branding, and perhaps that’s a gender demographic decision. Menkind, after all, is rather masculine.
However, there was hard reasoned logic of supply, warehousing and scale in the Prezzybox acquisition. Perhaps even targets now to hit. The expected warehouse clearance sale is now on and with big discounts. Geek Native has taken a look at some of the geeky best.
Spellbook notepad
The magic wand notebook has a pencil on the side that looks like a slender magic wand. This gift is for tabletop gamers who want a thematic campaign journal or old-school scribble pad.
Plotting to Kill You
In my head, I saw this as a gift for Dungeon Masters with cats. Aren’t DMs sometimes guilty of trying to plot you?
Oh, I dunno. Is it a geeky gift? It’s by the Oatmeal so it has geek cred, certainly!
Tetris wireless charger
I trust that your smartphone doesn’t vanish with a >plink< when the battery metre fills up!
The look and feel of this tech gift is right up my street and finally gives me an excuse to have retro console controllers out on show without being ostentatious about it.
Hovering ball shooting game
No one needs this. Do you want it, though?
I’m sometimes in the market for games that do two things; kill time but can be packed away quickly while waiting for gamers to arrive for a night’s gaming and/or break the ice.
I argue that this Airshot game can do both, but I’ve not played, so it’s an argument made only from photographic evidence.
Model BB-8
[Rolling]
Favourite Star Wars droid? For many, perhaps because it was the first movie they saw, it’s BB-8.
You have to build this BB-8, and that’s the charm. Thankfully, you don’t need to solder anything, nor do you even need glue.
Unicorn night light
[Shine]
If you’ve been to my apartment, you’ll know why this is here. I’m not alone! The Prezzybox rechargeable colour unicorn light currently has 5/5 stars in review, and it is a strong seller.
Tetris waffle maker
I know; we can file this under “want not need”. I think the same is true for almost everything else shared today except perhaps the retro wireless charger because you might not yet have a wireless charger, and your new phone might support it.
This kitchen tech toy helps makes Tetris-shaped waffles for messy breakfasts and it is selling out.
