“You are not heroes. You are the clean-up crew. Your predecessors were not heroes either. They were the mess.” So begins the delightful Kickstarter pitch by Aegis Armorsmith, aka Richard Smith Jr, and Rembrant.
Sins of the Adventurers is a level-less RPG about accomplishing dreams, accepting responsibility, and earning redemption. It’s fresh on Kickstarter, with a goal of $1,500, heading towards success and will count me among the backers. You can see the pitch and read more on the project page.
In Sins of the Adventurers, the “monsters” aren’t inherently evil, that was propaganda, but they were the byproduct of careless magic use.
Monsters evolve fast but also have a Core Solution as a nonviolent way to return them to normal or let their souls rest. As PCs, your ancestors fought against monsters, to rid the world of them, but this new generation has a choice.
Active representation means showcasing the wide range of possibilities that put marginalized groups at the forefront. Without changing existing rules or having to create new ones, you can build your characters into the game exactly as they appear in your mind.
You can support the RPG by pledging money or sharing it on social media. If you can pledge $15 or more, then you’ll get a PDF copy as a reward, all being well. Higher tiers make community copies available.
At $40, and with shipping supported worldwide, a soft cover of the game is added. That’s a full-colour 8.5×11 tome.
Stickers and pins are added at $40, and a zine “Guide to Gourmage Cooking” instead of them at $50.
Other tiers offer more community copies or personalised campaigns. There are add-ons, too.
The team estimates delivery in February 2023.
