In past coverage of The Eminence in Shadow, I’ve been torn whether the premise will carry a season. It’s an isekai in which the lead character doesn’t realise it’s all real, and I fear he’ll just get annoyingly stupid.
On the other hand, a hidden fantasy world of mystery and politics sounds fantastic, and the trailers look the part. This trailer, in which we meet Beta and Gamma, is subtitled if you fiddle with YouTube’s captions.
Previously, we’ve met Alpha the elf and in this trailer, we meet the fangirlish desires of Beta and the worryingly clumsy Gamma.
Still to meet are Delta, Epsilon, Zeta and Eta.
Putting my worries at ease, somewhat, is the reminder that TV anime is based on the light novels by Daisuke Aizawa and they’ve up to at least volume 6. Yen Press will get that out to the UK by February 2023. In the meantime, the first handful is available in a few languages.
