There has been official Doctor Who tabletop RPGs on and off for years.
Until today, the latest is the 2021 Doctor Who: The Roleplaying Game Second Edition from Cubicle 7. It uses the d6 Vortex system, and as a sidebar, it’s currently discounted in the Christmas in July sale.
Doctors and Daleks: Player’s Guide, published today by Cubicle 7, is the latest.
Doctors and Daleks uses the Dungeons & Dragon’s 5e rule system.
You don’t need any other book to play this Doctor Who D&D-powered game, but the free Basic Rules are recommended. It’s also worth noting that a hardcover is coming and more books.
If you don’t need the digital edition right now, then the Collector’s Edition might be worth waiting for. It’ll have three books and come in this slipcase of a TARDIS.
If you want to play Doctor Who 5e tonight, you can, as this 332-paged download has streamlined character rules (for other Time Lords and compansions).
D&D’s 5e rules are presented here to encourage combat-light and fast-paced sci-fi adventures. There are mechanics for all sorts of technologies and even customising the TARDIS.
Worried about doing this iconic series justice? The book comes with advice on how to run the game. There’s even a long look into the history of the Doctor, friends, enemies and encounters.
Or, if you’d prefer the physical copy, you can pre-order from Cubicle 7, and I speculate that Forbidden Planet in the UK will stock it. The specialist retailer has loads of Doctor Who goodies and stocks some of C7’s Warhammer RPGs.
