With the start of Gen Con, we’ve the rescheduled ZineQuest and the expected wave of fantastic light-weight RPGs. Tanya Floaker’s latest isn’t just a RPG; it’s a wargame too.
Lo! Thy Dread Empire is a grimdark and anti-capitalist narrative wargame. You can follow progress or join the Kickstarter campaign.
A free basic preview to download sketches out the RPG game of The Skeleton War and the fight against The Death Cult of Capitalism!
Wargame and RPG? Do you need both a sizeable mini collection and a GM? You need neither; they’re optional, and the game can be played with pen and paper.
Anti-capitalist? The digital files for the game will be freely available, and community copies of the game will be available after the campaign.
Equally, you don’t need money to support the campaign. It won’t help with funding, but you can share the pitch or even try the demo and lure others in.
For just a little money, just £1, you can get updates and those digital files as soon as they become available.
The suggested tier is £10, which offers the same but with more karma.
A physical copy of Lo! They Dread Empire (aka L!TDE) is included at £15 for those with a low income. £20 is the suggested amount if you’re better off.
The print copy will be a minimum of 40 pages, A5, Staple-Bound Zine. It will be full colour throughout. Inside you will find safety mechanics, the basic game rules, and a play guide. There are also extra rules for a Game Moderator (GM) to add a bit of spice to scenarios, using miniatures/terrain for your battles, full campaign rules, and a ready to use campaign (including ten factions to choose from).
There are two higher tiers; £25, which adds in a play-aid pack and £75, which adds your character to the book.
