Notorious in a ZineQuest project from Jason Price, the designer of Last Sentinels, that has about two lefts to run on Kickstarter. As it stands now, the target has been hit. However, the campaign isn’t a success until the bounty has been collected.
You’re a bounty hunter in Notorious, working hard to earn a living in the middle of an intergalactic war. It’s not easy. If you’re up for it, you can join in from the Kickstarter page.
Follow the dubious code of the Nomad’s Guild as you prowl through the scum of the universe during a war, hunting a target you can bring back dead or alive.
Notorious is inspired by Tiago Junges’ Ronin, which Geek Native has reviewed, and liked.
As an evolution, though, there are two ways to play this RPG.
ARCADE Option: a fast-paced mode in which you keep track of your characteristics and encounters on a single-player sheet and simply roll dice to resolve combat and events. A whole game takes about 1-2 hours to play.
STORY MODE: a more casual mode in which you develop and write a short story while playing, reacting to the questions and suggestions offered to you throughout each encounter. You’ll still roll dice, and basic notes on the player sheet may be helpful, but the game may run as long as your tale.
There are six different profiles or character types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses;
- Armour
- Bot
- Assassin
- Bute
- Gunslinger
- Uncanny
Every chapter of NOTORIOUS starts the same way. You receive some basic information about your target; their name, species and why your employer has put a bounty on their head.
You’ll land on one of six different planets, each with a unique profile. It’s your task to track down leads, while interacting with locals, hostiles and competing factions.
Gameplay follows a fast loop of exploring the wilderness, then discovering or returning to destinations. You’ll roll on tables to discover short events and narrative prompts.
A pledge of £5 is enough to be rewarded with a digital game edition. The RPG is expected to carry a discount on the £8 retail price.
At £10, you’ll get a print copy, but there’s shipping to pay, as well as the PDF. This is the most popular tier so far.
There’s also a £25 deluxe tier including some stickers, a Notorious custom notepad, an A5 cover print and a Palomino Blackwing Pearl Graphite pencil.
There’s a higher retail tier, and it’s all expected in November this year.
