Crowbar Creative’s 5e RPG and supplement Grordbort’s Scientific Adventure Violence is live and more than double the goal on Kickstarter.
The book introduces the cosmos of intrepid space explorers and imperialists with Exalted Funeral in support. And rayguns, there are rayguns which you can read bout on the pitch page.
The team makes no bones about the retail aspects of the Kickstarter, quickly pointing out that the $40 backer price is $10 cheaper than the expected retail price.
Dr. Grordbort is the creation of Weta Workshop’s Greg Broadmore, a universal built on comics and arts and now coming to the Dungeons & Dragons system.
Broadmore provides a forward, and then the book introduces dozens of new character options, many creatures, weapons, gadgets and vehicles.
The book is written in the same flavour and satire of the original that made it so popular, and, as the creative team says, you can say “bollocks to sides” and go out to create your own adventure.
True to form, while Dr. Grordbort has those 5e rules, it’s also being presented as a setting so that it is easy and accessible to other systems.
The finished book will be 225-ish pages, 200+ illustrations and hardcover in 8,5×11″.
In this setting, you can do all the fancy magic stuff you’re used to doing with wands and spell books, but you’ll be doing it with cantankerous ray rifles, fiddly apparatuses, bizarre chemical infusions, and/or ancient Martian tech. But beware, boffins! Technology is unpredictable and subject to malfunction. Bollocks up an attack, check, or spell, and you’ve got a date with one of eight custom Malfunction Tables.
A pledge of $25 is enough to unlock the first reward; that’s the core rules PDF.
Stepping up to $40 gets the hardcover edition and the PDF. However, at $5, there’s also a Dr. Grordbort shirt and patch added.
Above that, the tiers have sold out, except for the $100 retailer tier for five copies. As a result, the autographed bookplate certificate isn’t available unless it pops up in a fulfilment offer.
The estimated delivery is in June next year.
