You might remember the Dove Like a Girl campaign. Young girls who were asked to “fight like a girl” threw great punches and went all in. Girls who were just a little did the opposite, took the expression pejoratively and threw dramatically weak punches. The story was similar with “Run like a girl” or “Throw like a girl”.
The history lesson is over! Shopping opportunity on! I’ve bought t-shirts from The Spark before, including one from myself. This week the feminist fashion site has released a Stranger Things-inspired Fight Like a Girl t-shirt.
It’s an ethical range, too, printed by experts onto quality cotton and never sold by stores. Each purchase helps a woman or girl in need.
The Spark community describe themselves;
We’re what people call feminist killjoys, a term that we’re actually quite proud of. We’re here to put our money where our ‘loud feminist’ mouths are, creating apparel and accessories that scream feminism + equality while whispering quality + sustainability seductively (and consensually) in your ear at the same time.
The charities the retailer supports include Bloody Good Period and akt.
If you’re a bit nervous about this sort of thing, if you find yourself getting annoyed, then it’s okay. The Spark promises to fight for equality for everyone.
