Cave of Monsters Games has today launched 3 Minutes on Kickstarter. It’s a campaign for a card drive tabletop RPG that pays homage to TV shows like Ultraman, Mirrorman and Spectreman.
Update: Sadly, this Kickstarter has been cancelled due to the untimely death of one of the 3 Minute team. Sam says it is not right for the project to carry on.
In this RPG, the EIJI are threatening Earth, and they’re giant monsters, but not all of them are evil. Your PCs have bonded with one and can, for three minutes, become one. You can find out more on the pitch page.
Previously, Cave of Monsters released Henshin! A Sentai RPG (gold bestseller) and Rider Konchu (silver bestseller) so Sam Kusek has some pedigree in this area. Alejandro Bruzzese does the art here.
If successful, this Kickstarter will enable the game’s one and only print run, and the RPG will be digital afterwards.
3 Minutes is based on Gun&Slinger materials and uses the Marked & Made SRD by Nevyn Holmes, all under the auspices of Creative Commons 4.0 without any affiliations with Dinoberry.
The game has players create a Host and their Guardian, whose mission it is to hunt down and fight Aliens called EIJI. The flow of the game has players traveling to different locations as part of a Monster Defense patrol, using their unique backgrounds and special abilities and Guardian forms, to defend Earth against any attacks.
The game uses playing cards instead of dice, with players drawing cards on their turn and using any pairs in their hand to make moves. Any pairs that are successful are added to a larger pile, called the Guardian pile. When the EIJI shows up, the player can use those cards to the summon their Guardian and fight!
Backers who can contribute $15 or more will get a PDF copy with Kickstarter-exclusive content of the game.
At $25, the limited edition print version is added. Each edition of that print edition is hand numbered and signed.
There are higher tiers as the game adds a set of Pogs at $35.
There are two limited tiers at $300; one in which you name and describe an original Guardian, and in the other, you get to do the same with an EIJI.
Cave of Monsters Games estimates a March 2023 delivery for the printed edition and January 2023 for digital.
