Banana Chan, the ENnie-winning design, and The Curse of the House of Rookwood Michael Addison have teamed up for Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes.
The tabletop game is a sticker-fueled post-apocalypse of misfit outlaws fighting tyranny in a rock-n-roll retro-dystopia. You can find out more on the above-target Kickstarter.
The campaign says that fans of Powered by the Apocalypse or Forged in the Dark will recognise many concepts in Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes, but there’s an original rules system.
And there are stickers.
Inspirations for the game include Turbo Kid, Tank Girl, the Danger Days album from MCR, and KIPO and the Age of Wonderbeasts. The game helps you create your own world where you have your Valley and The Powers, the fascist overlords, that need a punch in the face.
A sample of the rules looks at Action Rolls.
The core system of Rebels is the action roll. When your Rebel tries to overcome an obstacle or seize an opportunity, choose a Skill and Gear, which are rated by die-size: D4, D6, D8, D10, or D12. Describe how your Look — your distinct fashion sense — helps you out, and you’ll gain an extra D6. Roll the dice for Skill, Gear, and Look. Any that roll 4+ are successes! Spend successes one-for-one on outcomes for the Skill you rolled.
A pledge of $15 is sufficient to earn a thank you of a PDF and all the stretch goal content. There’s a cheaper tier if that’s too much of a stretch.
You can support the campaign, of course, at any level but stepping up to $30 and the physical book and stickers are added.
Here’s a twist – at $60, you’ll get a limited edition “No Swears” version, a customised physical version with curse words removed.
Alternatively, for $60, you could also get a “Moar Swears” which does as you imagine. This one, not “No Swears, ” is earning the backers.
A September 2023 delivery date is estimated for the main books and November for the custom swears.
