Michael R Miller has a hit with Ascendant and the Songs of Chaos series that’s hopping from a highly reviewed fantasy novel to the tabletop with a 5e setting and supplement.
There are still three weeks for funds to come in, but Wider Path Games has smashed campaign goals for their Kickstarter campaign. You can join in, download a free sample, or find out more below or on the campaign page.
Amazon describes Ascendant as the story of a boy who rescues a dragon egg. The egg would have otherwise been destroyed as the creature inside is blind. Then the dragon riders are slaughtered, the Scourge rising and leaving the youngster no choice but to learn the magical secrets of his rescued dragon companion.
What does that mean for the 5e supplement? You can see a Google Drive-hosted sample for free.
Wider Path Games also say;
- 6 dragon rider classes where you play the role of both dragon and dragon rider
- New Power system with more than 100 Powers
- 44 monsters and a system for turning any creature into a blight-infected monster
- A system for crafting your unique dragon rider weapon
- 14 new Special Items
- 25 encounters
- An adventure to introduce the Songs of Chaos RPG
Michael Miller took the fantasy world by storm when he published Ascendent, marking the start to a new dragon rider epic combining the best of Eragon and Pern with the hard magic of Brandon Sanderson and Will Wight.
Backers get access to the add-ons with a pledge of $5 and the digital pact at $25. The digital back has the PDF version of the Songs of Chaos RPG core rules and the virtual tabletop pack.
Then, at $49, and with international shipping offered, the hardcover of the 150-200 page setting is added. Or a Roll20 version can be swapped instead.
There’s a fan pack at $99, which has some STL files of the dragons added, with a discount on a painting service and a signed copy of a Songs of Chaos book.
All going to plan; the Songs of Chaos RPG for 5e will ship in July and the digital pack available earlier.
