Pigsmoke and Bleak Spirit indie RPG creator Chris Longhurst is back on Kickstarter with a superhero solo game called See Page X.
It’s a game about keeping superheroes’ backstories and plotlines consistent, sensible and sellable even after hundreds of plots. The Oxford-based publisher is asking for £1,000 to fund the project and is nearly there.
See Page X, which is finished and is Kickstarting to fund production, was designed as a solo TTRPG but plays as a group game too. Each character is still a unique hero. You could even have crossover episodes when two solo players catch up and tell the story of two heroes cooperating (or not!)
In each game, the player runs through an arc of several questions about what’s going on. The questions dig into how the superhero reacts, and a deck of cards is used as a facilitator.
See Issue X is a tabletop roleplaying game where you tell the story of a superhero and also stand in the shoes of their writer as you struggle with their ever-more-unwieldy backstory. When the grey aliens threaten the Earth, that’s one thing. When they kidnap Aunt Harriet’s dog, that’s… a little odd, but you can sell it. When they bring the hero back from the grave because of their shared love of board games, you know you’re working with real comic book nonsense.
A pledge of £10 is enough to get a copy of the PDF, and the delivery for that is December 2022. Shockingly, December 2022 is just around the corner.
Stepping up to a pledge of £25 is enough to get the See Issue X paperback. The physical book will need shipping added later and isn’t expected until December 2023.
There’s one more tier, limited in number, and that’s £50 to pick a character to be included as art in the game.
There’s a playthrough of the game by Big Gay Nerds on Soundcloud
