Isaac VanDuyn first Kickstarter launch asked for more than $17,000 to fund an RPG. It’s gone well; there are nearly four weeks for funds to come in, and almost $50,000 has been pledged so far.
The OSR on offer is called Outcast Silver Raiders and offers three books of blood-drenched occult setting. You can find out more or see progress on Kickstarter.
There’s a free download of an early 40-page preview. It’s hosted on Google Drive, which is good to see from someone who works at Google as Isaac does.
Player characters reject the brutal theocracy of society to seek fame and fortune as outcasts beyond the lands of the Godly.
The pitch insists that you’ll love the game whether you’re an OSR or 5e fan, whether or not you know what OSR is (an old school movement that’s hard to define). It’s also noted that Outcast Silver Raiders is a luxury game set with a Player’s Guide, Referee’s Compendium, the campaign book and the map. The books are hardcover colour editions with gilded page edges and ribbon bookmarks.
Outcast Silver Raiders is what the televangelists, the hack investigative journalists, and the grasping Hollywood producers imagined when they caused a satanic panic around RPGs in the eighties. Daemons. Darkness. Sacrifice. Blood spilling over cracked altars in desecrated chapels.
As usual, and I’ve started to like to stress, you can support this indie Kickstarter RPG project simply by telling people about it.
If you have got a $39 pledge in cash, that’s about £34; you can secure a PDF of the Player’s Guide, Referee’s Compendium, the campaign The Mythic North, the map and all digital stretch goals as a reward.
The next tier, $85, also adds all the books as physical copies, but shipping is restricted to certain countries.
The mega tiers at $285 and $666 have sold out.
Cartographer and Calligrapher Lex Rocket, heavy metal illustrator Kim Diaz Holm, and designer Isaac VanDuyn estimate the game’s delivery of October 2023.
