The Nerd Sirens are an indie game store and publisher from Poznan in Poland who are on Kickstarter with Beyond Corny Groń.
Beyond Corny Groń is a system-neutral toolkit and sandbox generator for RPGs inspired by Polish mountain legends and folk tales. Sound niche? The Kickstarter has attracted hundreds of backers, smashed the funding goal is open for two more weeks.
The Kickstarter carries the OSR badge in RPG terms but notes it’ll also work for D&D-style games. Mork Borg is mentioned as the main inspiration, along with Old-School Essentials and Forbidden Lands.
Polish folk tales mean bold highwaymen, mysteries, moss-covered pagan strongholds, fey-kings, diabolical nobles and romantic tales about Hidden Things.
The final book will be about 270-pages long in B5 and printed on uncoated paper. The look of the physical product is a big part of the project.
Beyond Corny Groń will contain a mountain map generator and one for caves as well. Tables help PCs with backgrounds and factions. There’s random places and encounters, with a bestiary of monsters and creatures.
BEYOND CORNY GROŃ comes from many great games and adventures grown on fertile OSR soil, both in terms of writing and design. It’s mainly inspired by the legends of the Carpathian Mountains and other Polish folk tales about supernatural creatures, daring outlaws, and noble-born sorcerers. I put this flavor onto my experiences of adventure role-playing games, based on facing the unknown, exploring fairy-tale lands, investigating ruins lost in time, and looting ancient treasures.
Backers who pledge just €1 in support make a difference. At €10, they’ll also get the PDFs of the Adventurer’s Guide, postcards with tables, the character sheet, a map-drawing frame and any digital stretch goals.
The only other tier is €35, which adds that cloth-bound and hot foil stamped hardcover, with printed postcards to the digital collection.
Nerd Sirens estimate a June 2023 delivery.
