Peter Hollinghurst has written an adventure with a built-in system called The Edinburgh Horrors, Long Dead Ink. The system, we’re told, generates stories as well as resolves actions.
The adventure is set in Edinburgh in the 1920s, so a bit before this Edinburgh-born blogger’s time. There’s a target of CA$500 to fund the Kickstarter.
There’s an exiled Russian Countess, lost magic, a cute dog, a posh hotel and what might be a werewolf (a bit like 2022 then).
Peter has researched Edinburgh in the 1920s so you can use the setting as a springboard into other adventures. The locations include tales of ghosts, witches and mysteries and the adventure will come with photographs, maps and other resources.
The adventure is self-contained but there are bonuses such as other books and the Edinburgh Horrors Character Deck that makes it better.
The storyline is going to take players on a magical adventure to find the source of all magic and bring it back to a world devastated by the First World War. For some it will be about finding healing, re-enchanting a broken world. For others it may end up being more about power and control. Players will get to shape a burgeoning new secret society and the decisions they make will help determine its focus for good or ill. It is a journey that will eventually take them (in later adventures) to a magically hidden island of the coast of England and a rival secret society that is centuries old and holds the key to the power they seek. It will feature both horror and wonder along the way and eventually throw players into an ancient conflict for the soul of humanity and the players characters themselves. It is an adventure where nothing is quite what it seems and you can find both friends and enemies in unexpected places and guises.
Backers at CA$10, about £7 in Edinburgh money, will get the PDF of the gameplay guide as a reward, plus the option for a print-on-demand copy at cost coupon from DriveThruRPG.
There are several CA$15 tiers. One is the Mysterious Edinburgh Guide in PDF and the print-on-demand option, and another is The Edinburgh Horrors: Long Dead Ink PDF adventure with a POD option. There’s also a PDF with the Edinburgh Horrors Players Tarot. That’s three CA$15 options. The fourth is the CA$15 for the Edinburgh Horrors Storytellers Tarot deck in PDF and with print-on-demand from DriveThruCards.
As you’d expect, the higher tiers let you get different combinations of these elements. CA$25 is both Tarot decks, CA$35 for all the player options and CA$50 for all the storyteller ones.
At CA$60, £38, you get the complete set and there are some CA$500 heavy lifters with portraits included.
The estimated delivery is March next year.
