Yesterday, Geek Native published DriveThruRPG stats on the best selling horror RPGs that launched on the site this year. Today, we’re looking at modern RPGs and by which the authors mean games with a contemporary setting.
Publishers tag their games in DriveThruRPG, and it’s fair to say that many horror games aren’t set in the past, in a fantasy world, nor are they marked family friendly. Most horror games are also modern-era, so buckle up for some overlap.

Congratulations, again, to Onyx Path. The Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition publisher had pride of place in horror and is even more dominant with modern. Onyx Path makes up almost half the top twenty and with eight placings.
Chaosium, and the community content program that supports them, does well again and a Vampire RPG, this time Forbidden Religions by Renegade Game Studios once again beaten out to the top spot.
Titan Effect RPG: Declassified Edition by Knight Errant Media and Delta Green: Iconoclasts by Arc Dream Publishing are the highest-placed indies. The first is a game about super-powered agents in a future-plausible espionage setting, and the second is a conspiracy horror.
