London’s Gold Mountain Games are asking the Kickstarter community for £60,000 to fund book one of The Saltreach Isles. That book, Oscana, will be one in six, which suggests a grand project.
The campaign launched on Christmas weekend and has several thousand in cash from over 40 backers already. You can see progress on the pitch page.
Gold Mountain Games describe themselves as a production studio and note they’ve over 40 creative staff ranging from musicians to editors, as well as writers and artists. If tabletop RPGs is all Gold Mountain Games does that would make them one of the largest publishers in the world.
The large team has almost finished all the content, we’re told, and that includes almost four hours of music from those musicians.
The Saltreach Isles, a world that embraces peace and strife, has grown and evolved over millennia. While the peoples of Oscana find harmony and friendship in one another, they are surrounded by the dangers of a land beset by foul creatures and a sea full of ferocious beasts.
The Ashani, an ancient species that existed millenia ago, now slumber deep below the surface. Maintained in stasis within malfunctioning pods, their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, affect those living above.
You can support the campaign by sharing it on social media or pledging some money. At £1, you’ll get access to add-ons, and at £25, the digital tier unlocks. That tier includes the PDF edition of Oscana and the one-shot The Dread Lord’s Talisman plus digital stretch goals.
The core rules are upgraded to the hardcover edition for backers who can contribute £50 to the project.
The complete experience, though, seems to be the reward for £130 backers as they get the hardcover core rules, the PDF adventure, the music but also 11 dice, a standing dice bag, a deck of item cards, a deck of monster cards, a deck of spell and feat cards, a GM screen and a canvas map.
However, there’s a higher reward tier at £260 in which the premium version of the core rules is swapped in, and there’s also a premium map, a wooden dice box, and the card decks become pearlescent.
An art book is added at £350, and the tiers top out at “I Know the Owner!” at £1,000.
Delivery is scheduled for August, with the PDF months earlier.
