I’m sure this has been on sale at the amazingly named The Unemployed Philosophers Guild, but this Star Trek mug is filed under “New to me”.
As hot water is added and the mug heats the thermic reaction, Captain Kirk, Mr Spock, Lieutenant Uhura, and Dr McCoy vanish from the transporter pad. Where to? They’ve beamed down to a dangerous planet. Worryingly, Uhura is the red shirt.
Fear not; they’re just switching from one side of the mug to the other.
I’ve found the same mug at Amazon, but The Unemployed Philosophers Guild is still selling it. However, you may feel safer in the familiar eCommerce system of the giant.
The mug is about 400 grams, made from ceramic and 72% of people who bought it give it 5/5 stars. 4% gave it 1/5. What upsets those few? It’s the same problem; the colour-changing sticker sometimes begins to peel off.
Importantly, the mug isn’t suitable for dishwashers or microwaves. I’ve not found a colour-changing mug which can withstand such treatment, and I suspect the current technology level of thermic designs.
As for Star Trek’s transporters, we might also argue the technology there is a little shaky. Did you know transporter tech first appeared in the 1965 pilot episode The Cage?
