The special hour-long Dr. Stone episode got a new director, and it’s Shuhei Matsushita who’ll stay at the helm for series 3.
Dr. Stone is about people who wake up thousands of years after a strange event turned everyone on Earth to stone. The goal is to get civilisation back, and there’s a bit of a recap in the trailer for the new series.
The new series is due out in April 2023 and Crunchyroll will continue to stream it, having aired everything so far.
Crunchyroll describe the sneaky ‘lets learn science’ show;
Several thousand years after a mysterious phenomenon that turns all of humanity to stone, the extraordinarily intelligent, science-driven boy, Senku Ishigami, awakens.
Facing a world of stone and the total collapse of civilization, Senku makes up his mind to use science to rebuild the world. Starting with his super strong childhood friend Taiju Oki, who awakened at the same time, they will begin to rebuild civilization from nothing…
Depicting two million years of scientific history from the Stone Age to present day, the unprecedented crafting adventure story is about to begin!
The new character is Francios, who looks like a European pirate-age sailor and apparently was Ryusui’s butler before the petrification of the world. Let’s see how the script explains that.
Maaya Sakamoto will voice Francios, who may be best known as Mari Illustrious Makinami in Evangelion.
