Polyhedral will be, Kickstarter-depending, a new gaming magazine.
Dave Wright, who coordinates the successful Tabletop Scotland convention, plans to launch a quarterly with a modern approach to RPG content.
The submission guidelines (PDF link) are live and with rates dependent on the number of backers the Kickstarter gets.
Another gaming magazine? I asked David why he thought the time was right for Polyhedral.
None of the current RPG magazines or zines do what those of yesteryear did. None of them combine the feeling of being about the whole RPG hobby whilst also being useful tools for people in the hobby. Polyhedral aims to be exactly that.”
David also noted on A 2nd Chapter that;
Mags / Zines / Whatever you want to call them exist for a plethora of different systems. MCDM’s Arcadia is a prime example of a 5e centric zine that does what it does well, but the content is all 5e. Sure you can port things over but would you?
The Blasphemous Tome would be another one for Call of Cthulhu, as would Bayt al Azif. Then you have publications like Never Mind The Dice Rolls, Wyrd Science, Knock, and the list goes on.
All of them do what they do well, but none of them, in my opinion, provide what Polyhedral will.
Wright also stresses that Polyhedral isn’t intended to be a replacement for self-publishing at sites like the DMsGuild or programs like the Miskatonic Repository.
I note, also, that Dave Wright’s previous DriveThruRPG releases are now branded as Polyhedral Press. As editor of the new magazine and as a convention organiser, Dave has hands-on experience.
Geek Native expects the Kickstarter for Polyhedral to launch within the next few weeks and for submissions to be competitive. People like to be paid for their RPG thoughts, tips and wisdom.
