The 2d20 World Builders community content program from Modiphius and DriveThruRPG provides rules and a platform for third-party publishers to create and sell content.
Oh look. Modiphius make sure they call out whether they can change the agreement and what else you can do. Modiphius can’t change this agreement but note they could change requirements for future consent.
The deal is supported by a 2d20 System Reference Document that makes rules available for third-party publishers to use and a home on DriveThruRPG to sell them. Intellectual Property (IP) created by publishers remains their own, and Modiphius notes that means you can develop that world for a rival system, make a movie or a graphic novel.
The commercial split is;
- 50% to the third-party publisher
- 30% to DriveThruRPG
- 20% to Modiphius
Modiphius say they will invest all of their share on art and support such as seminars, templates, promotions and art packs. Putting money and art where their mouth is, the British publisher and Roll Vs Evil patron has already made 710 MB and 304 pages of 2d20 World Builders Achtung! Cthulhu Art live and for free. There’s a smaller template pack too.
Furthermore, if you’re able to produce content at a professional level, then there’s a separate Commercial License with better rates and different rules.
It might already be too late, but Modiphius is launching the program with a cash bonus to spur people on. The first $100 in royalties for the first five people to publish at least 10,000 words will be met. A further $500 in royalties will be rewarded to whomever Modiphius is most impressed by come June 1st.
Fans can see which and when 2d20 titles are published through the program on this page on DriveThruRPG.
