A year after not hitting Kickstarter goals, The Towninator from Andreas Barbesgaard is back. It’s an approach to generating single-sheet towns and tracking how RPG PCs interact.
2023’s Towninator has smashed targets, asking for DKK 2,800 and pushing through DKK 15,000 with two weeks to go. You can see progress on the pitch page.
Andreas has a second video that digs into the system. In it, the designer explains how the program generates towns quickly and even how some weird stuff might come from it, suggesting that it gives the option for more memorable games.
The system includes more than just the infrastructure and location of towns. There are also the people in it in the form of NPCs and the factions they are part of.
Not sure you’d pay? It’s free on GumRoad, and you can check it out. So far, it’s rated 4.9/5 after over a hundred reviews.
The goal of the Kickstarter is to get some art, layout and visuals into the system.
Backers who offer DKK 50, about £6, get the Towninator character sheet in PDF and the rules document in the same format.
Those who double their financial support to DKK will also get an NPC sheet, a Detail sheet and a Faction sheet.
