Screenwriter Désirée Nordlund is back on Kickstarter with an RPG that lets you pick the rules you want. Väruld is system agnostic and book one is the world book.
It’s almost as if hardwiring settings to systems has become unpopular of all of a sudden!
In the game setting three created planets orbit a huge sun and a season lasts a life time. You can see Désirée’s progress on the pitch page.
Désirée Nordlund is based in Sweden, and in old Swedish, Väruld means ‘world’. In the game, Väruld is a system with three planets capable of supporting life.
The Allvaldughers are the human races who live on them and the first book shares an overview on the system before doing an in-depth look at Fyrst, the first of the three planets.
Backers get a book with maps, history, cities, villages and points of interest. It’s an RPG about exploration, though combat and other dramas are all possible.
There are portals on Fyrst, two in total, one for each of the other two planets and every 35,000 Earth years those portals open. When the alignment happens the human races, those born on different planets, mix and mingle before the rare event is lost to history.
It is also a place where magic exists. Most magicians are just tricksters without any real skill. A skilled, trained wizard can do almost anything. It has a cost in stamina and a resulting imbalance that needs to be restored. Magic is not common. Not even wizards use it every day.
There are early bird tiers, but out with those, SEK 140 (about £11) will get you a PDF copy of the book and content-based stretch goals.
Backers at the SEK 300 tier will get a printed physical book, the PDF, and all stretch goals associated with the printing.
There are signed copies available, but these are limited and selling out. The lowest tier that supports this reward is SEK 450, or about £36. There are higher tiers for shop owners.
Nordlund estimates an October 2023 delivery.
