Until the end of February, Manifold is only $4.99. That’s a good deal for a 476-page download, and perhaps that’s one reason the new release is already an Electrum bestseller.
The designer is Simon Burley, who might be best known as one of the two designers of the Games Workshop-published Golden Heroes. Golden Heroes, a superhero RPG, came out first in 1982 and then professionally in 1984.
Manifold is a sudden and dramatic return for the Birmingham-based designer who has not been on the tabletop scene or social media since the pandemic’s start.
The 476-page book, also available in hardcover ($50, reduced from $70) and softback, is four books in one. There’s a horror genre, sci-fi, fantasy and Burley’s famous superheroes. Each genre has a setting, too; Dark Forces, New London, The Empire of Man and Arestia.
There are a few gotchas. The budget black and white softcover version of Manifold does not have superheroes. We’re also warned that the horror scenario deals with adult themes and is rated 18+.
The DrivethruRPG blurb for the game says;
MANIFOLD has a seductive range of options which encourage players’ imagination and creativity. It’s a game full of twists and turns. But these are allocated via die rolls. Quieter or newer players are encouraged to participate whilst the more experienced don’t get to dominate.
