Libra is a tabletop RPG based on Brazilian and Latin American folklore and culture. It’s not intended to be educational or political but a fantasy RPG not rooted in European stories.
The game was funded in 2021 in Brazil, home of Craftando Games, the publishers and is now on Kickstarter with USA and worldwide shipping for a hardcover version of the topical setting. You can follow or pledge on Kickstarter.
The target is $8K, and there’s over a month to reach it. That’s a longer run time than usual, but Craftando is still in the early stages of pushing into the North American market.
Libra is about balance in a world of diversity and constant change. There is a fight for survival, a struggle for land, and a battle against barons and colonels. There’s also investigation, mystery and magic.
Inspiration for the game draws on Afro-Brazilian culture and geographies, borrowing from spirituality, dances, capoeira and architecture.
The game has its own system, and if funded, the book will be over 230 pages of colour, and 100 illustrations, including nine playable ancestries, seven classes and 21 specialisations.
Libra has rules for creating spells and comes with a list of ready-to-go spells to use immediately. There are rules for faith in a world without gods and rules for technology up to early gunpowder weapons.
You know the drill; you don’t need to spend any money to support the project as you can do so by telling people about it. Equally, pledges of $1 help contribute but don’t unlock any rewards.
A $5 pledge gets you in the pledge manager, but it’s $25 before you reserve any rewards. At that latter tier, many rewards come at once; the PDF core rules, the adventure and tales books, ten original tracks and extra digital offerings.
Backers at $45 also get the Libra RPG core book in hardcover. Then, at $60, the softcover of the adventures and tales book is added and “phase 2 goals”.
Beyond this tier are character sheets, comic books, paper maps and extra goals. These start at $100 and finish one level higher at $150.
Craftando estimates delivery mid-way through this year and in June 2023.
