RPG designer and author Camille is back on Kickstarter with a solo RPG called Lampblack, about ink that comes to life.
The author of Flameskin Chronicles and Talons and Teeth does comics and poetry and, in Lampblack, explores even more art, ambition and also monsters. You can find out more from the Kickstarter pitch page.
In the game, the player, you, is an artist who wants to create an ink monster. These are known as inkblots.
A journalling approach with prompts from Lampblack will determine whether you do manage to turn the dark liquid into a monster and whether you can control it.
Camille points out you can use Lampblack to conjure up ideas for D&D monsters, and you can find a sample on the CM Anderson site.
In the past, ink monsters terrorized villages and lurked in dark forests. Fear of the ink led to witch hunts and burnings. We poured lampblack into lakes and oceans to dilute its terrible power.
As the age of industry rises and humans create new, more dangerous weapons, the terror of ink is forgotten. Lampblack is something to be studied, tamed, and made useful.
Backers get the PDF version of the print-and-play Lampback if they offer $8 for the project.
At $15, and with worldwide shipping on offer, a rules reference card and a print edition are added to the rewards.
There are a few more tiers beyond that, as the $30 artist bundle also gets a lined notebook, a map print and player sheets.
There’s an accompanying comic, and issues #1 and #2 are added to the growing soot loot pile at $55.
The estimated delivery for Lampblack is May 2023.
