Orcs Unlimited show that their research on whether to make Dodgeball the RPG suggested no one wanted it. For Zine Quest, the indie publisher put the tabletop game forward for crowdfunding.
Dodgeball is a game that no one wanted but will be made anyway, as there are two weeks left on the clock, nearly x3 over the target (albeit a humble one), and Orcs Unlimited have a history of delivering.
The zine will be around a dozen pages and set in a universe where dodgeball games are used to decide what happens.
Humankind has explored the solar systems, and we are not alone. In the busy galaxy, humanity is small and fragile compared to other alien territories, but we’re in the galactic council, and they use dodgeball to settle conflicts.
Dodgeball uses the Open Orcs System, which uses exploding d6 and has been evolving for the last few years.
At the time of writing, the game is about three-quarters done, and there are no stretch goals to complicate things.
Powerful nations can pay top dollar to have athletes fight for their ideals over another. Some galaxy-class athletes are renowned for standing by their beliefs, and only competing for what they feel is right. Many others, however, are happy to fight for whatever side will pay them the most money. The competition for hot-button issues is cutthroat, with the best of the best showing up to compete. Wet-behind-the-ears athletes still get their chance on the court for smaller issues like land disputes, where they might make a name for themselves and get paid the big bucks to fight for bigger issues in the future.
There’s one tier and no physical product planned on Kickstarter. It’ll cost just $2 in backing for the quirky project to get on the thank-you list for a PDF copy of the Dodgeball RPG.
When will the RPG be delivered? If all goes to plan, the game will fly across the court and whack you in the forehead in May 2023.
