Barcelona-based Shadowlands Games asked for €9,000 to run their gothic horror RPG Raven, backed by a Facebook campaign the Kickstarter is on track to hit €90,000.
The tabletop game is inspired by the melancholy stories of Edgar Allan Poe and is rich with cursed magic. There are about three weeks left to join the project.
Shadowlands Games have made the quickstart free (PDF link) as a way to introduce dark stories, ghosts, ruins and ancient conspiracies.
Raven uses the Maelstrom system and is set in a sombre world centred around the fictional and ancient city of Raven. Raven, the city, might bring to mind 19th-century Nothern American cities, when and where Poe was writing.
There are both English and Spanish versions of the Raven RPG coming and the Kickstarter pitch, which starts in English, explains the game in both languages.
The Raven – A Gothic Horror Roleplaying Game funding project is meant to produce a superbly and beautifully illustrated book. Written by the horror and mystery narrative award-winning author Daniel P. Espinosa and illustrated by the renowned gothic international talent Abigail Larson and the applauded national illustrators Andrés Sáez Marlock and José Calmujo, the more than 260 pages of the core rulebook will contain everything you need to role-play: the innovative rules of the Maelstrom system, a complete setting and an introductory scenario. You can find samples of the inside of the book and its sections below.
Backers who pledge €24 or more, about £22, will get the core Raven rules in PDF as a thank you and all unlocked PDF stretch goals.
At €49, that reward bundle is upgraded to include the printed core rules and beta access to the PDF when it becomes available.
Those supporters who unearth €89 or more will also get a GM screen, custom dice, a map of the city of Raven and a scenarios book.
As it stands today, the final tier weighs in at €149 and adds the Tenebrous voice notebook, handout rule cards, Corvus character sheets, Prints Abigail, all unlocked fiscal stretch goals and an exclusive Raven box.
The RPG publishing studio estimates an October 2023 delivery for all project tiers.
