I accused the anime I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World of shameless geeky fantasy in November when I first saw a trailer.
There’s a new one out. I still think I’m right, but yeah, it looks fun!
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World light novels, on which the anime is based, are published by Fujimi Shobo under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. Yen Press has English language rights.
It’s Yen who sums up the storyline;
A Chance to Come Back!
A mysterious door stands open, inviting a boy who’s been brutally bullied all his life to take a courageous step forward into the unknown. On the other side, he finds a hoard of priceless artifacts and a world as filled with magic as it is with monsters. The most shocking revelation, however, is that he can bring whatever he wants back with him when he returns to Earth. It won’t be long before this double life changes him forever.
That synopsis does not mention the transformation from unfit and unkempt fella to the heartthrob he seems to become. Magic items for the win, I guess.
The anime is being directed by Shin Itagaki and Shingo Tanabe, with studio Millepensee producing. The show will come to Japanese TV in early April, and we don’t yet know if a streaming platform will pick it up.
