In Subversion, players are envoys who directly act to save their community. The game is about balancing your values against achieving necessary goals with fighting resistance.
The tabletop RPG asked for $10,000 to fund, and with more than three weeks left on the timer there’s nearly $40,000 pledged. You can watch the numbers or find out more from the project page.
Subversion is set in the sprawling city of Neo Babylon, which is the world’s largest, richest, and most influential. The rich thrive while the lower classes are ground down, their wealth and energy transferred to the wealthy few.
The cyberpunk game has magic, fantastic creatures and even Babylonian gods, and it has been that way for thousands of years.
Fragging Unicorns say they wanted to make a game about kiss-ass heroes fighting back for their communities against a corrupt world. There’s as much focus on relationships as there is on combat. The dangers in the setting aren’t restricted to bleeding out under the flashing neon but of being betrayed, broken and worn down.
Subversion is a game about people and communities eking out a better existence in this rapidly changing world. The drama centers around the actions of envoys, representatives of your community, each from one of seven fantastic species, with their own unique combination of abilities, determined to protect and advance their communities while remaining true to their own ideals. Subversion is about community, direct action, revolution, and hope for the future, even against a world rife with runaway technology, unchecked power, and dangerous secrets.
You can back the project for any amount of cash or support it with a share.
Backers who contribute $25 or more in a pledge will get a PDF copy of the RPG as a thank you.
At $60, backers will get the PDF and hardcover, with an Obsidian Portal premium membership too. The Obisidian Portal is a site to manage your tabletop RPG, share world notes and coordinate your game.
Roll20 assets, a large poster map and the previous perks are the loot for backers at $125. Above this level, the tiers are limited, some selling out, with $250 for all that, a patch and a game with the Fragging team. $500 gets your character into the game, $1000 a game for your whole group and at $1500 you can design a whole faction.
The slated delivery of the PDF is in November and everything else in December 2023.
