The gamer accessories brand Helpful NPCs have taken a new generation of their Character Cases to Kickstarter. It’s a tabletop organiser that protects your character sheet, has space for dice, minis, and cards, and is robust enough to be chucked into a car’s back seat.
The Michigan-based startup is asking for $20,000 to fund the project, which is a target that could still be met with a few more people sharing the project around.
The Character Case project is the Helpful NPCs’ first Kickstarter, but they’ve been doing something similar for many years now. The first generation of the organiser went on sale in 2017.
The new design evolution makes the case more robust, which is pretty essential as the rugged utility of the folder looks like a key attraction.
The specs are straightforward, and perhaps a significant call out is that the case is just under 2lbs which, if I take the Imperial out of the system, takes us to about 1kg.
The 14″ by 11.5″ by 2.5″ case has sections inside;
- Writing utensils.
- Writing surface.
- Paper storage.
- Dice rolling tray.
- Miniature storage.
- Device stand.
- Card storage.
Helpful NPCs also have a proprietary glow-in-the-dark dice design called the Glowie d6. That’s only shown as a mockup in the Kickstarter pitch but available anyway.
You can support the startup by pledging cash or spreading the news.
However, backers wanting a case must step up and go quids in. There’s one pledge, with add-ons, and commit $70 (about £60) to the campaign and that gets one Glowie dice, a dice bag and the character case.
There’s worldwide shipping on offer, which must be paid for, but the Helpful NPCs are taking $10 off that for everyone.
The estimated delivery is December 2023, which makes the Character Case a potential but risky gift.
