I knew an anime called The Marginal Service was coming, but it led with visual teasers, and I’ll admit I discounted it as fan service with hunky men.
I realised later that’s a fire brigade thing going on too, which, I guess, is still in line with the fan service. Here are some of the initial teasers, and let me know if you think I was daft to form such conclusions.
Now Cygames’ website is running a trailer for the new original series ahead of an April 11th premiere in Japan. It’s not what I expected!
Gun Gale and Sword Art Online Alternative director Masayuki Sakoi is at the helm of the project at Studio 3Hz.
The character names are great in a cheesy way! The squirrel is called Peck Desmont. Here’s the Marginal Service;
- Zero Stokes
- Brian Nightraider
- Lyra Candeyheart
- Robin Timbert
- Cyrus N Kuga
- Theodore Thompson
- (and my favourite) Rubber Suit
Yuma Uchida voices Rubber Suit, and I found a quote from him describing the plot. Talking about his music single, “Salt & Sugar”, which will also be the opening theme, he said;
In the story of ‘THE MARGINAL SERVICE,’ there is a race of people called the Borderlanders, who are different from us Earthlings. Since the Earthlings and the Borderlanders are different from each other, they clash, and the story progresses without reaching a mutual understanding. We created this song with the idea that there could be a future in which Earthlings and Borderlanders could learn about things they don’t know and connect with each other. I will also play the role of Rubber Suit in the anime. I hope you will enjoy the anime as well as ‘Salt & Sugar’!”
