Imagine my surprise and delight when Edinburgh’s Krema Bakehouse shared a birthday cake commission they made for Erin.
Yes, Erin, and inside the cake was a Colossal Titan.
Eren Jaeger is the key character of the often-gory, often-dramatic, war-spanning Attack on Titan. In the anime, people live hidden behind protected city walls while cannibal titans roam mindlessly in the countryside.
The insignia on the cake is that of the Scout Regiment, the sole military division brave enough to venture outside.
I think the best way to enjoy the series is not to know too much about the Colossal Titan, but surely a glance will tell you it’s not what you want to find inside your cake. Although, well, I suppose there is a risk/reward scenario in having a birthday large enough to conceal the monstrous body!
Attack on Titan airs on Crunchyroll and is currently showing the final chapters. Absolutely final, they say.
Krema is at the Foot of the Walk in Edinburgh, it is open seven days, and this blogger recommends it. There’s no shortage of bakers in Leith, and Krema is one of the most generous with its portion sizes while keeping the quality very high. Commissions, like the Attack on Titan cake, can be made over social media (never done it), or you can walk in to pick up something made that day (I’ve often done it).
