I think we know the formula of over-achievers with complex social life, one driven hero, and all tied together in a mission while at magic school. Nevertheless, Reign of the Seven Spellblades looks like good fantasy fun.
The first trailer is out, there are English subs if you toggle them on, but I’m not sure how revealing they are.
The anime is an adaptation of the light novels by Bokuto Uno; we have a release date but no certainty on whether a Western streaming platform will pick it up.
We know that Yen Press publish books from the series in English, and we can get a synopsis from them. They say;
Springtime at Kimberly Magic Academy, when new students begin their first year. One boy, clad in black robes with a white cane and sword strapped to his hip, approaches the prestigious school. This young man—Oliver—must form a bond with a katana wielding girl named Nanao if he’s to survive the dangers he’s to face at this school that is anything but what it seems!
What did you make of the trailer? It did look like the magic school students attacked the line of captured magical creatures. A rescue?
J.C. Staff are making the series with director Masato Matsune in charge. There’s some pressure as Reign of the Seven Spellblades was the top-ranking story in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel Is Amazing!) guidebook in 2020. The eighth volume was out last September.
