The trailer thumbnail showing a moment of joyful celebration attracted my interest in Alice Gear Aegis Expansion first; then, the key visual poster persuaded me to go deeper.
The trailer nearly lost me, sci-fi, then wholesome slice-of-life; I thought I saw some lingering male-gaze camera and then back to slice-of-life.
Perhaps it’s a bit of all of the above, but the series is out in early April. Studio Nomad is making the show and Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro director Hirokazu Hanai at the helm.

The story of Alice Gear Aegis Expansion takes place in the far future, when humanity is forced to flee Earth after an attack from mechanical lifeforms known as Weiss. These beings can be combated by Actresses: young women adept at using high-dimensional weapons known as Alice Gear. Under the supervision of AEGiS, private companies of Actresses head out into the universe to exterminate Weiss and save the human race from being doomed to wander the universe forever.
The clue that this isn’t the first Alice Gear is in the name “Expansion”, but there’s even an iOS and Android game that’s been out since 2018, and an English version of Alice Gear Aegis console game is coming to PlayStation and Switch.
There’s not much of a clue to the alien-battling occupations of these young actresses in the poster, is there?
