Some tabletop games help you navigate inter-group tensions, coordinate on complex character backstories and explore story-rich narratives. Tyson Burruss’ Legends Never Die embraces other aspects that make group games fun, leans into the dungeon crawling, and then goes a step further with a full-on “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena” vibe with player versus player rules.
Legends Never Die needs $500 to fund on Kickstarter.
Tyson Burruss has run three other Kickstarters, all for an RPG called Aether and Steamworks; the first, the 1.5 and then the expanded edition. There are no comments on the latest which often means no complaints.
The pitch for Legends Never Die is that it’s a game in which characters can be spun up in 10 minutes; the GM (the arbiter) makes the rule calls but not the dice roles and can even have a character of their own.
There are two modes of play; the dungeon crawling PvE and the MOBA PvP. The latter uses a victory condition to determine when the game ends and supports team play.
The game has 13 classes, designed to cover the spectrum of character sheet dots and battle grid strengths and presented as such. Classes include Archmade, Change, Gungrave, Lockdown and Tank.
To turn the tide of battle, players can unleash Ultimate powers once per scene after a build up period. These abilities can be game-changing and provide a real sense of epic-ness to the battles. Chain your opponents in place to damaging magics with the Lockdown, cause your enemies to attack at random indiscriminately as the Trickster, and lay down an executing strike as the Bruiser!
You can support the solo creator by spreading the news about the game or pledging cash.
Backers who offer $15 or more will get a PDF copy of the game, and those who find $25 will also get an at-cost coupon for the physical copy. DriveThruRPG will handle the printing and shipping, thus setting those costs.
At $40, an “Alt Skin” of your design is added to a class signed as a PNG to your email address.
There’s a limited, but already popular in percentage terms, $50 tier which adds the ability to create a champion to be included in the book.
Tyson estimates the PDF will be ready by October, and the physical book shipping by December.
