Jessica Donnelly has created something beautiful on a quest to find a gamer dice solution that should not roll under the sofa. The solution rolls very well, and that’s crystal spheres in a roulette wheel of a dish.
The Kickstarter tagline for Seven Ring Dice invokes the ‘acceleration of particles, and I get the Hadron Collider image from that. Perhaps searching for the god particle becomes searching for a nat-20 on the tabletop. The Kickstarter is live for a few weeks and has smashed its target.
The designs in the centre of the wooden disc are selling points as much as the concept.
It’s always nice to be reassured about sustainable wood use in such projects, but we don’t get much of it here. We’re told that two types of wood are on offer, black walnut and birch, and these are commonly used.
The material of the ball is synthetic crystal, which is more transparent and brighter than ordinary glass. Their diameter is 8mm, and their weight and size are very easy to manipulate. We chose red and blue from numerous colors, and each set of seven dice comes with 10 crystal rollers to prevent loss. Of course, you can try to match other colors and materials of balls, such as metal or gemstone balls, and they can also run on the Seven Ring Dice.
I can see how these dice rings can also be used for gaming counters.
Supporting worldwide shipping and with access to add-ons to get more goodies (such as more crystal dice balls), the $10 tier offers a d6 or d20 disc and one dice.
Backers at $20 will get two d6 or d20 discs in different materials – one black walnut and the other not – with two dice.
A complete set of 7x ring discs with 10 dice spheres and some tabletop track toys is the reward for backers at $65.
After that, backers get more. $130 doubles the tally to 14, and $195 takes it to 21, with the top tier offering 42 for $325.
Impressively, the project is slated to ship in June.
