Mythmere Games has 24 days left on their Kickstarter for a revised edition of Swords & Wizardry. It seems to be going well; the Texas based publisher asked for $1,000 from the community and already has nearly $75,000.
The tabletop game uses the original rules from D&D, and the pitch promises easy-to-learn rules. You can see progress or join in from the pitch page.
When Swords & Wizardry was first released in 2008, it picked up an ENnie award, and you can download a free PDF preview.
It’s also important to note that Mythmere has nothing to do with Wizards of the Coast.
The Kickstarter funds a complete game, with different cover variants, monsters, chargen and the whole kit.
The new edition has art from Erol Otus, Del Teigeler, Matsya Daas, and other industry vets. Mythmere Games themselves are Suzy Moseby and Matt Finch.
This printing contains some revisions to earlier versions. The main revisions are a simplification of the treasure tables and a nudge upward on the experience point tables for the more dangerous monsters, together with some modernizations of language and several minor adjustments to bring the rules closer into line with the original D&D rules (thanks are due to Will Mistretta for many of these errata suggestions). New additions also include numbers for monsters encountered in the wilderness as well as Random Castles (including encounters for Dragons and Giants).
You can support the project in the usual ways, and this is where Geek Native likes to encourage readers to share the news or contribute money without a reward. Yeah.
However, it’s a pledge of $5 to get the PDF for the revised rulebook, which is designed to be an affordable option.
At $17, we’re still digital, but backers also get the solo adventure The Doom of Malakar and the introductory adventure Legacy of Blackscale Lagoon.
A print-on-demand copy comes with the PDF for backers at $25, with shipping to pay, but you’ll have to pick which variant you want.
Or, for backers who don’t want any more rules, even revised ones, in their life, the two adventures in PDF and physical form are there at $28.
A traditionally printed version with a blue cover rewards backers at $35, and a print-on-demand extra is added at $60.
The all-in pledge with all the books is there at $88, with limited shipping.
There are add-ons, and Mythmere estimates July this year to deliver the first printed books, with the old-school printing later in November.
