Is fighting for peace still an oxymoron if it’s four otakus pushing back against an invasion and the end of nerd culture?
The latest Magical Girl Magical Destroyers makes me think it’s a grey area, but it depends on who set off those bomb blasts, I suppose…
Magical Girl Magical Destroyers is an original anime from the artist Jun Inagawa. Inagawa is well-known for blurring the lines between different subcultures, such as anime and music. While Inagawa has worked with various clothing companies and musicians, this is the first project he says he could create what he “truly wanted to do.”
So, what did he create? IMDb says;
Four otakus who will fight for freedom, when a mysterious force suddenly starts eliminating the otaku culture in the year 2008.
The original character designs and story are thought to be based on concepts from his previous art projects.
The anime is directed by Hiroshi Ikehata (FLCL Progressive) at Bibury Animation Studio (The Quintessential Quintuplets). The opening theme song, “MAGICAL DESTROYER”, is performed by Blue’s voice actress Aimi, and composer Akira Hashiba’s artist unit The ending theme song “Gospelion in a classic love” is performed by the 13th Tailor, which is Akira Hashiba’s artist unit.
A smartphone game titled Magical Girl Destroyers Kai is also in the works for the franchise. Anarchy, Blue, and Pink from the anime will appear in the game. Sumire Uesaka will play Peace, a new heroine in the game.
