The D&D setting of the moment from the Gygax family, from Luke, is the World of Okkorim. The ongoing adventure series has been the Occulus of Senrahbah. Gaxx Worx, Luke’s company, is on Kickstarter to fund the last part.
The Fate of Chentoufi has hit the humble target of $1,500. The 5e adventure has three weeks on the clock, more than $25,000 pledged and hundreds of backers. You can join in from the pitch page.
The 5e adventure is at the point where it suits a group of 4 or 5 characters who are around levels 8 or 9.
The target for the campaign was appropriate to the goal to fund about 50 pages of new Okkorim adventure.
It’s an exciting world, but the Kickstarter doesn’t really elaborate on it, and that’s likely because the target audience is backing the last part of the adventure, not the first, but here’s my attempt at a history/summary.
In the distant past, the World of Okkorim was full of life and laced with rivers and canals. It was a land full of resources, but one society prospered compared to others. Through the methodical conquest and integration of neighbouring populations and their lands, the Empire of the Ydrissid was born.
The Imperial power was unparalleled, but it was ultimately undone by the Empire’s insatiable appetite for wealth and control. Centuries have now passed, and the Ydrissid are long gone, but their relics, artefacts, and plunder remain for those brave enough to venture into the Blighted Lands of Okkorim!
The Oculus of Senrahbah is one of four ancient and powerful relics used centuries ago by the Ydrissid Empire used to grant them control over the four elements – in a similar, but more powerful manner used by the Zenoks of Chentoufi today. During The Great Wrath, as the Ydrissid Empire crumbled, the artifacts were eventually lost and spread to the winds across Okkorim.
The Oculus itself holds sway over elemental water and was similarly powerful in magical divination. During the power struggle that preceded The Great Wrath, the device was in the possession of a mighty thaumaturge whose name is lost in the mists of time, deep in the heart of the Ydrissid Empire. The archmage fled from the destruction using the power of the Oculus to protect them. In the tumultuous decades that followed, the power and glory of the once mighty Yrissid disappeared like water poured in the sands.
The usual ways to help a crowdfunding campaign apply, and I like how Gaxx Worx have found a way to give something to $2 backers. If that’s all you can or want to do at that tier, you’ll get the BBEG creature stats in PDF. That’s a new world boss with an emphasis on “world”.
At $12, backers get the full PDF copy of the Fate of Chentoufi, but no stretch goals.
At $25, supporters get the stretch goals and a print copy of the PDF.
There are many higher tiers, though, such as the $29 one, which gets backers the Fate, Heart and Eye of Chentoufi – the set of three modules for the adventure. At $60, backers also get print copies.
The Gygax name is important to D&D players, and at $75, there are not just custom Okkorim dice added but also a signed Fate of Chentoufi. That’s a Gygax personalised edition of a 5e book.
Higher tiers are limited in number, with $125 adding more signed books, $350 further adding a Luke Gygax game in person at Gamehole and Gaxx Worx Gold Membership and $600 for a virtual game and Platinum Membership.
Gaxx Worx estimates delivery of October for the books and September for the digital editions, depending on the event for the others.
