Merging Deep Rock Galactic, DOOM and The Expanse, Stoneburner is a crowdfunding campaign from Fari RPGs to create that I feel might be the most wholesome horror game I know of.
It’s solo-friendly and inspired by the new school revolution (NSR), where dwarves in an asteroid mine are clearing out demons and building a community. There are three weeks to go, and hundreds of backers already.
Stoneburner has already hit its funding goal (several times over), and it’s easy to see why.
If you want to know more or just don’t want to wait, there’s a free preview on Itch.
There’s also an actual play podcast.
The game is based on the Breathless system. If you see games using or citing Breathless more often, you do not imagine things; Breathless already powers some 150 games.
There’s also a reason why Breathless fans will be especially interested in Stoneburner. The co-creator, writer and designer of Stoneburner is René-Pier Deshaies-Gélinas. René-Pier Deshaies-Gélinas designed Breathless.
The other co-creator is the talented illustrator Galen Pejeau, who we’ve seen before on Wicked Ones. Professional editor Eric Lazure is on board too.
Inspired by the new school revolution (NSR) movement, players take on the role of a group of dwarves who, after the death of a distant relative, inherit a dilapidated settlement, along with its accompanying demon haunted mine.
The game focuses on the dwarves’ journey as they navigate the challenges of their new responsibilities, rebuild a new thriving community, and clear the mine of its fire-spitting monsters.
The Kickstarter tiers are straightforward and quick (which won’t surprise people who know the Breathless system) and are only two. However, as I like to point out, you can also support the project by sharing it or pledging cash without a reward.
The CA$20 tier (about £12) gets you the PDF copy. Backers at that tier will get their digital copy via Itch.io.
There’s good news for people who like print editions, as one that comes with the PDF is available at the CA$ 35 level. Fari RPGs support worldwide shipping.
The estimated delivery date for both the physical and digital editions is December.
