I’m not involved with BREAK!! but have been tracking the project for years. I’m not surprised to see this beautiful, clever and thoughtful tabletop RPG fund in a flash.
Grey Wizard and Reynaldo, the creators, now have a giant book to deliver, but those of us who have been following along know how much work has already been done. The game is easy-to-play, if all goes well, and the art on the Kickstarter pitch speaks for itself.
The core of BREAK!! is adventure and exploration, as happens in JRPGs, with characters roaming the world to see what is there.
The art is inspired by classic anime and those old SNES games that imagine delightful fantasy worlds of green grass and blue skies. There is a lot of book to full, with 470 pages, and that size means diagrams and even infographics are layered in for visual learners.
Is there also a lot to do? The creative team says the project is nearly ready to go. Want to see more? There are sample pages available via Google Drive.
BREAK!! is for everyone, not just with diversity in mind, but for new RPG players, 5e players looking to try something else and OSR players who will appreciate the old-school engine. It also suits gaming parents as the theme is very much young adults.
The campaign setting is post-apocalyptic, despite not being grimdark, and dangerous. There are old structures to explore, a broken sun and themed regions.
You can support the indie RPG by telling the world about it or offering cash. Backers who offer £20 or more will get the PDF as a reward.
At £45, there are the core print rules and the PDF as the backer reward, but shipping needs to be added, and as the team is based in the UK, there are some exclusions.
£60 is enough to get the PDF and the limited edition print which covers with a slipcase.
Tempting me, and with dozens of people already there, there’s a £100 tier with all three book editions.
Grey Wizard and Reynaldo estimate June for the PDF and November, yes, this year, for all the print.
