There’s a free preview of Knave 2e which is rated 5/5. That’s nice, but I imagine the nearly $250,000 the Kickstarter has soared to on launch day is even nicer for Ben Milton and the team!
The ENnie Award-winning designer and Questing Beast host has easily funded Knave 2e’s merger of OSR with a modern approach. You can see for yourself at the pitch page.
The book is illustrated by Peter Mullen. It’s only 80 pages, but the Grognard aspect of me no longer desires phat tomes but good-looking, easy to use and high-quality items, and that’s what I associate with Milton and Mullen.
The 2e version has a GM’s toolkit, d20 mechanics, a slot-based inventory, classless characters, and a d6 hazard die system.
There are also downtime activities, monster-hunting alchemy, utility-focused magic, relationship-driven divine magic, and a tactical warfare system for mass battles.
This edition expands on the intuitive core of the original game, featuring elegant, modular subsystems for hexcrawling, dungeon delving, potion making and downtime activities, all in a 80-page digest-sized hardcover lavishly illustrated by Peter Mullen.
As usual, you can help the indie project by offering some cash or spreading the word, but if you can step up to $20, you’ll get the PDF edition of the Knave 2e rules. Hundreds have.
At $35, backers anywhere in the world also get the print edition but must also find shipping to pay.
The bonus content of The Waking of Willowby Hall Adventure, Maze Rats and Summer’s End and other adventures are added in PDF, swapping out any physical goodies, at $40.
A popular tier is the $50 premium physical edition (which also comes with a PDF).
However, stretching to $80 to get the standard Knave 2e plus physical books for the other offers is even more popular.
There is a slight step-down in backer figures for the $95, which upgrades those core 2e rules to the Premium edition.
There are higher tiers, especially useful if you want the Premium edition for your shelf and the standard edition for the gaming table or you’ve a gaming group to kit out with the rules yourself.
Questing Beast estimates delivery of the project before the end of the year.
