Until recently, world-building sites or software solutions that kept track of your notes and campaigns have been different from virtual tabletops (VTT). That’s beginning to change, and Realm Architect is an early contender.
The Kickstarter for Realm Architect asked for €22,000, and it’s made €31,000 already, with weeks left to run. The pitch video takes over 6 minutes to explain features while also looking good. You can join in or see progress from the project page.
The pitch is clear; it’s more than maps and automated dice roles. I like the no-code approach, which means you can custom configure the system and eventually do that fairly aggressively. Still, it won’t ask you to learn JavaScript or a custom computer language.
A kicker for many software tabletop solutions has been the finances. Are you renting a license, paying for a subscription, or buying lifetime access but need to find your own server?
Realm Architect begins life as a subscription service where you can choose campaigns for our players. Later, you can buy these same campaigns directly and without being on a subscription model.
If you’re the type of person that prefers to experience a role-playing campaign yourself, rather than setting one up, fret not! Realm Architect will have ready-made content for you to adventure through. Along with our community of veteran GMs and publishers, we’ll set up campaigns for you to play through, foes to vanquish (with detailed monster manuals) and anything else your thrill-seeking heart may require. It’s plug & play!
A pledge of €20 or more, which is about £18, will get you an exclusive in-app dice, your name on the NPC generator and beta access, but this is an early bird tier limited by number. After that, this costs €25. Both tiers are a three-month subscription offer.
At €45, that becomes a 6-month subscription offer, and you start earlier with alpha access as well as beta.
Then, at €69, it’s the same perks except with a year-long subscription offer.
It goes higher and gets interesting. One hundred fifty people can get a lifetime subscription deal for a one-off €199. That’s amazing if Realm Architect is a great success. You also get commissioned token art added to the NPC generator. This tier, guess what is nearly sold out.
However, an unlocked lifetime license offer for €249 (about £220) exists.
More? If you want to be remembered, you can also get a lifetime deal and be the baddie in a Realm Architect Campaign with a backing of €1,000.
Delivery is slated for January 2024, which, I think, suggests the software is well underway. The BBG top tier is Feburary.
