Netflix starts the final season of the CG Ultraman anime soon – on May 11th.
The script is grounded in the classic Tsuburaya tokusatsu series and based on Eiichi Shimizu and illustrated by Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s legendary manga.
It’s been a ride for fans. The first season started on Netflix back in 2019 when (if memory services) the platform had much less competition and was more cautious on anime. The most recent season was just last month.
Here’s how the platform sums up the drama so far;
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
Wait.
A.
Minute.
Could final not mean last?
Netflix has also tweeted 2024 plans. The CG Ultraman isn’t the only project they’ve been working on. There’s the 3D-CG one too! That was announced a few years back with Shannon Tindle at the helm.
We know the project is nearly ready and will see it next year.
The film will follow Ken Sato, a superstar baseball player who returns to Japan to become the latest hero to carry the mantle of Ultraman. His plans go awry, however, when he is compelled to raise a newborn kaiju monster — the offspring of his greatest enemy — as his own child. Sato will also have to contend with his relationship with his estranged father and the schemes of the Kaiju Defense Force.
