London-based tabletop RPG Leyline Press used Twitter to announce they’d cut ties with an editor working on Salvage Union.
The editor in question, who has not been named, had been working on Lamentations of the Flame Princess and other projects which had been linked to bigotry and other harmful views.
In a move that Leyline would have known was both welcomed and controversial, they apologised for not vetting staff better, removed the editor’s name from Salvage Union and will not work with the person in question.
Clauses about not bringing employer brands into disrespect are common here in the UK. However, not everyone was happy.
Some on Twitter thought Leyline Press should have named the editor, others seemed hostile towards Leyline, while others praised the publisher for having the guts to stand by their convictions.
Some of the hostility came from gamers who had not heard of Lamentations of the Flame Princess but insisted they would now buy a copy of the RPG; presumably, these same people are great fans of buying and playing RPGs for political reasons.
Leyline Press has received critical praise for tabletop RPGs such as a Mew-Tants and Were-Woofs, the Mothership-compatible Andromeda and Albion Tales.
