Netflix will stream Akuma-kun later this year.
Junichi Sato and Fumitoshi Oizaki will direct the supernatural Akuma-kun, animated by Toei Animation and Encourage Films.
The show as been teased for a few years, but it’s coming now. The kid who looks half-spooked is Akuma-kun and the friend in the top hat has the unusual name of Mephisto 3.
There’s a cinema release called Kitaro Tanjou – GeGeGe no Nazo, which, with the Akuma-kin anime, is part of a 100-year celebration of the birth of manga author Shigeru Mizuki.
That feels fitting as Akuma-kun, the character, reincarnates every 10,000 years to channel the hunger of demons to (somehow) make the world a better place. The original manga dates back to 1963. It’s older than me.
However, there’s been an Akuma-kun series before, with Toei giving it a bash in 1989.
