WrightWerx publishes Mecha vs Kaiju RPG in various forms, and the latest will be 5e. A Kickstarter is coming in August.
First, though, there’s a free-to-download Mecha Vs Kaiju.
As the name implies, the world of Mecha Vs Kaiju is one in which enormous monsters from our movie universe exist. The characters are daring robot pilots who put themselves in these titanic monsters’ paths to protect their homeland. It’s also a setting where not every threat is monstrous, and some monsters have human faces.
The 5th Engine, a version that adds dynamic resolves and narrative capabilities to 5E, is introduced in the Mecha Vs Kaiju 202X Starter Adventure.
- Characters have anime archetypes and personality traits that emphasize who they are as much as what they can do.
- The system replaces static bonuses and difficulty classes with dice pools that reward you for roleplaying.
- Actions can impact a scene, from helping characters or allies, harming others, or improving defences, and all simultaneously.
- A system for powers, talents, tools, robots, or monsters.
- Transformable into your own 5E game.
While the Kickstarter is a little while away, the basic mechanics of Mecha Vs Kaiju 202X are summed up on the first four pages of the download. The rest of the 24-page starter set is an adventure of investigation, interaction, a chase scene and then the cinematic kaiju fight.
There are four pregenned characters, NPCs and those vital kaiju stats.
WrightWerx says the scenario will last four to six hours.
